Methods for Soaking Bird's Nest
How to Soak and Stew Bird’s Nest | Complete Guide
Preparing bird’s nest is simple when you follow the proper steps. The basic process includes soaking, cleaning, removing fine impurities, stewing, and portioning for refrigeration. Even beginners can easily prepare it at home.
Bird’s Nest Soaking Instructions
1. Soak
Place the dried bird’s nest in a clean container and add enough purified water to completely cover it. Soak for about 5 hours, until fully hydrated and naturally expanded.
2. Separate the Strands
Gently pull the softened bird’s nest apart along its natural fibers. Thicker corner sections can be carefully loosened by hand.
3. Clean
Gently rinse the bird’s nest with warm water and use a fine strainer to remove small impurities. If necessary, use tweezers to pick out any remaining fine feathers.
4. Drain
Place the cleaned bird’s nest in a strainer and allow the excess water to drain. The soaking process is now complete.
5. Stew
Place the soaked bird’s nest in a covered stewing bowl, add an appropriate amount of purified water, and double-boil for about 30 minutes, until the strands become soft and translucent.
Tips
Soaking time may vary slightly depending on the thickness, dryness, and type of bird’s nest. Handle gently during cleaning to avoid breaking the strands. Avoid prolonged high-heat cooking, as it may affect the texture.
Recommended Pairings
